This is a Pastel on canson paper. 27x39 inches. My fav. color for horses, again. This pastel was a challange, as i wanted to keep it pretty monochromatic, but still give a sence of color. The Horse that inspired it, and was also the model for, is Ibn Adeweya. Though his temperment is not qiuite the best, he looks amazing and is full of fire. He is an eye catching stallion in Egypt belonging to Mr.Khaled Bin Laden, who's lovely farm outside Cairo was a pleasure to visit.
So again, I tried to show the ancient echos of this beautiful breed that always inspires me.
This is stunning, as always. I love how the relief carvings echo the pose of the stallion.
I know you used a real horse as reference, but it looks to me as if the muzzle is too long and the fore cannons too narrow. (Not that I have much right to criticise, as the anatomy in my art is horrible, but his forelegs look a bit emaciated to me.)
Thank you.
Indeed, I did put an emphasis slightly towards refinement to push the elegance a bit, But Arabians, specially Egyptian ones, do tend to have slim legs, yet the bone density and soundness are double that of other breed.
Also in this piece I also pushed the perspective a bit, so the forelegs are further away then the rear to the viewer, and going away at speed.
I debated a long time as I was working on this piece about the cannon issue, but chose the elegence and perspective push over clear exactness.
Amazingly beautiful! The muscular definition in his legs is extrordinary and his coat looks so shiny. As well the Ancient Egyptian relief carvings in the background are quite well done. You captured the Ancient Egyptian style pretty accuratly. Again fantastic job!

Gorgeous work. It's hard to believe it's with pastels... I thought it was a painting. Def. worth a full view and I like how the concept on the wall is turned into "real life."
Amazing! As always. I could almost imagine it as an Ancient Egyptian work in the stone, magically coming alive with the spirit of the horse.....
Indeed, the cannon seems thin, but my mare is very similiar in build: thin and long. I admire the more pure lines of this breed, for they do have such an amazingly delicate look to them, but in truth their strength is impressive.....
The muzzle looks a little long, which sets it off, but it lends to the fact that this image jumped out of a sketch or etching
