This is an oil, playing with the way light and shadow falls on a horse and can accent its form. Also My favourite color for horse, as you can see. I tend to paint alot of them. They seem to be on fire.
Arab type horses were used throuhout the eastern Mediterranean, especially in ancient times. in fact these horses were never called "Arab" or "Arabian" until quite recently. I have seen so many images on ancient coins and reliefe scultures and vase paintings with horses of this type, that I am convinced these horses where indeed the F-15's of their day. The Bedouins simply preserved these ancient horses.
The use of light control is really nice. The horse's head shape is delicious. It has a nice mood to it... Although, wouldn't the man be taller since Arabians are rather small? Or is he the right height since people back then were short anyways? lol. I've just always wondered these things.
Glad you like. yea, you said it, folks were shorter, and there are Arabs that are as tall as other breeds, though not in excess. Actually, the more type they have, generaly the smaller. but thats not always consistent either.
anyhow , thanks again.
I am absolutely in love with the way you accomplish these magnificent creatures! You truly capture their delicate, fiery, yet intelligent nature even if the subject is standing and not in motion.... A perfect depiction!
On a note to the comment previous mine: The Polish Arab is an example of a rather tall, and muscular, line of the breed. I personally was shocked at the towering height of the horse when I first met a Polish Arab in person. My pure blood Arab mare is fairly tall, but only because she has a lot of leg, though on the other hand, my gelding is fairly short. He, however, was a rescue horse, and was rather malnurished when I bought him, so he was stunted...
hahaha, i love the guy's headress.. they wore all that armor and then no shoes?! especially around horses?? wow, tough warriors as for the horse, it's flawless

Love the light. Chestnuts are a fav of mine as well. The redheads of the horseworld LOL
I grew up with arabians and then worked with Thoroughbreds and the rest of the spectrum. Arabians remain my favorite though.
Excellent painting. Ever do sculpture? I can see you doing Edwin A Bogucki style
