Walking the Dunes by wolfman007 Walking the Dunes by wolfman007
This is an oil.
The horse is a stallion in Egypt named Emad El Din, I just put him in a different age, about a thousand years ago.
He is a horse that took my breath away with his presence. He is like a king, and knows it.
I hope I did him justice.
Thanks to his owners Erminio Granata who showed him to me on several occasions so I could "take him in " before I painted him.

You've painted a stunning portrait of a gorgeous stallion. You ooze talent!
KDragonclaw Featured By Owner Feb 24, 2011
This is breathtaking. You have a wonderful command of shading that makes the entire piece look 3D.

You certainly captured the regal-quality I imagine Emad El Din having from your description. So jealous that you got to spend time with such a majestic stallion.

I can't wait to see more of your work.

Amazing horse, amazing colors and I love the similarity of the horse's coat and the dunes. Awesome.

What a lovely picture. I love how you do horses. You take anatomical accuracy and give it life. My gosh, that horse just strides off the page in all his grandeur. I adore what you did with the sheik's robes, too. What a gorgeous concept. He looks part jinn. :)

This is so realistic,it really shows the beauty of the arabian horse:)
well done:heart:

I believe you did him justice. It is almost as if Emad El Din should be leading the man instead of the other way around!

i have been a horse person all my it true that the finest arabians are super intelligent and are actually almost charismatic in their appeal?

you capture arabians so precisely...............but i only know of their nature from the inbred american version rather than the pure dessert strains.

When you choose the techniques to be used in your painting (either consciously or subconsciously) correctly, and perform them excellently, this is what you end up with.

thank you. It did seem to all come together in this painting.

I'm living in the M.E and I've been to egypt! Thats a perfect background. Perfect horse too!! Looks like a horse from the Magnum Psyche line. All the same, hes GREAT!!!
wolfman007 Featured By Owner Aug 26, 2006
Thanx. ya, magnum, I know, i did slightly push the neck. Took some artistic lisence.
He's actually straight egyptian, so only way back over 3 generations do they share some genes.
equusrevelrous Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2006  Professional Traditional Artist
This is gorgeously done, The ony thing i noticed about the horse that kind of sets him off is his back. Most of him is actually in proportion but his back is quite sunk in and weak looking which gives him the feeling of age. He is stunning however, and i love the desert feeling this has. very well done.
wolfman007 Featured By Owner Aug 26, 2006
Your right, but this stallion is quite old, he does have a bit of a sunken back, I was trying to be true to how he looked when i saw him. His foals dont have it.

I see, well, he is gorgeous none the less :)

I love the braided mane, and the almost airy sense of the robes swirling around the man. His legs seem a little short, but it doesn't distract too greatly.
LindaColijn Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2006  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
The horse looks absolutely beautiful, like he could just step out of the canvas. Amazing work. Your horse painting talent is something to proud of!

Thanks so much.

The delicate detail, the carefully thought out characters and scenery, the movement all make out one gorgeous piece of work. What really cought my eye was how the horse's mane became one golden thread. I love hyper-realism and this is a master's work.
Absolutely breath taking.

Absolutely stunning. Beautiful job, though I think his foreleg may be a bit too long. But still, great work.

Just stunning! I wish I could say something more specific and constructive, about the form or composition or whatnot, but, heh, me no pay attention in art class. ^^;

Simply breath-taking. The stallion is so beautiful that I can almost expect him to walk right off the page :)
You did an absolutely amazing job.

I don't know what to say....... Heart

Hmm, think of this really... a full grown man could easily rest his arm across the back of any full Arabian. They range between 14 to 16 hands(i believe), which a 6 ft male could easily drap a arm over. Otherwise, you did more than ample credit to the Arab Stallion, his lines flow from nose to tail perfectly. Beautiful horse he must be IRL, head is perfectly set on the neck, which flows down into everything else. Im jealous you got to see a horse like that. I gotta nother fav now XD
wolfman007 Featured By Owner Aug 26, 2006
Thanks you, glad you like. Your right about the specs. but the fello doesnt have to be 6 foot, also he is somewhat downhill compared to the horse, thats why he appers low. This stallion actually looks way bigger than he is just because of his presence and muscle build.
Fatimah Featured By Owner Jan 14, 2006
Holy God, this is fantastic :faint: you've definitely done that beautiful stallion should see the one i have on an mpeg..his name's beaunafide bey, magnificent black arab dream horse come to life...walks as if the ground isn't good enough for'd lay on the floor so he could walk over me if he wanted to, he's that magnificent.

Love this painting  beautiful work :star:

High withers on the ol' chap huh? :) He must be gorgeous, I love that colourisation on the horses, they always look like drops of the sun come to live.

You capture everything that makes an arabian horse beautifully in these paintings. I'm in awe.

beautiful painting ... the stallion is stunning ... and the colours are wonderful ... great work
Ameban Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2006  Professional General Artist
The arabian horse and the golden dust are wonderful done, but the human figure is a little out of proportion... His head is too big for such short man. That's the only mistake I see, otherwise, it'll be a wonderful pic!
wolfman007 Featured By Owner Aug 26, 2006
Yup, his head looks big, but its actually the head gear that gives that impresion.
I had to compramise for the overall compasition.
